LANGUAGE ARTS
In reading, students will focus on finding big ideas and main events in their reading. We will practice sequencing and summarizing what we have read, as well as reviewing and practicing previous comprehension strategies and text features. We will also read and write poetry and have fun presenting these poems orally.
In writing, students will practice revising their work to add detail and interest, as well as editing to improve legibility and use of conventions such as punctuation. Again, weekly word sorts and other classroom activities will be used to reinforce sight word identification and spelling patterns.
In oral language, students will have several opportunities to practice speaking skills and there will be an ongoing emphasis to use listening to share and develop ideas in a group or partner setting.
MATHEMATICS
This term students will review and reinforce concepts introduced earlier in the year (such as patterning, addition & subtraction with regrouping and graphing) with a special focus on multiplication for the grade threes. All students will be introduced to division, probability and geometry.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Most of the term will be spent investigating First Nations in British Columbia, but we will spend the end of the year looking at communities and global citizenship.
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
To start this term, we will finish up our unit on forces and energy. We will then be looking at the environment and life cycles. We are excited to view the butterfly life cycle up close in April.
In the computer lab, students will continue to practice typing and math skills using Ten Thumbs and Prodigy. We will spend more time creating online using Google Drive.
HEALTH AND CAREER
The focus this term will be safety in our communities, but we will continue to discuss healthy personal practices. In particular, we will focus on how our physical, emotional and mental health are interconnected.
