MATH
We are working on a multiplication unit. In it, we relate multiplication to repeat addition and skip counting. Students should recognize the multiplication sign as representing equal groups (for example 4x3 means four groups of three or 3+3+3+3 or 3,6,9,12). They should also understand that 4x3 and 3x4 will result in the same answer. While memorization is not required at this level, quick recall of facts is always a benefit for students. You can help at home by practicing skip counting. Students should be able to answer questions involving, 0x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x fairly fluently.
HOMEWORK CALENDARS
January calendars are due Monday and February calendars will be handed out. Digital copies are also available through the website.
UNPLUG AND PLAY
Completed forms should be returned to school as soon as possible. Forms will be submitted for the draw on Friday, February 5.
EARLY CLOSURE
There are early closures February 4 & 5 (12:30). On the Thursday, the classroom will be open from 1:00- 3:00 and 5:00-7:00 as a drop in time for student led conferences. I hope you'll be able to drop in and see what your child has been doing. The remaining times (Thursday 3:00-5:00 and Friday 1:00-4:00) will be available for parent teacher interviews.
