Good morning,
What a lovely weekend. I hope you're all able to find some time to relax and enjoy your families. Below is a little information about the week ahead.
MATH
We will be continuing to learn about place values. Students should be starting to understand that the 7 in 78 stands for 7 tens (or 70) and the 8 stands for 8 ones. As well, we will keep looking for patterns in the 100s chart - for instance when I add 10 to a number, the tens digit increases by 1, but the ones digit remains the same.
HOMEWORK
Students are expected to read at least 15 minutes a night. Students should be able to read the books they choose fairly independently, but reading with your child can be rewarding for you both. Check your child's understanding of what they are reading by asking questions about the story.
As well, students should be completing the homework calendar activity for the day. I will be collecting calendars November 2 and putting them in a draw.
SOCIAL SKILLS
We have been working on naming our emotions and finding constructive ways to deal with them. For example, if a child is feeling left out, they can ask nicely to join or find another activity. We will continue to work on using TILT*on the playground as well as reading body language and facial expressions.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will start our Mapping Unit this week. The early focus will be on how to tell an information book from a story and how symbols are used to communicate.
FACIAL TISSUES
As cold season approaches, I will be asking each child to bring in a box of facial tissues to share with the class so some will be available at all times. Thanks in advance for your contribution.
Enjoy your Thanksgivings!
Pam
* T tell the person what you want- "Please stop chasing me."
I ignore the person- Stop running and continue to play with your friends.
L leave the situation- If the other person persists, leave the area.
T tell and adult- If the problem is not solved, find a supervisor or other adult to tell.
