Good morning!
It's really looking like a winter wonderland at my house this morning. I hope you'll be able to enjoy the snow with your family today.
PROVINCE PROJECT
Students are working hard on their research projects. Students who need additional support finishing their written work, will be working with me at recess or lunch to complete it. Students may bring parts of the project home, but it should be things they can complete independently like title pages, colouring pictures or labeling maps. Please note that we fill in our agendas in the morning, so all students will write down the item (for example title page) but many will complete it over the course of the day.
HOMEWORK
Thank you for your support at home. There was a marked improvement in spelling scores this week. Don't forget that the words & calendar are available on the class website, so even if your child forgets their work at school they'll be able to complete it.
ART STARTS
Thank you to Mrs. von Hollen for coming in this week. I know the children really enjoyed making their fish at the last session. I have posted a few pictures on the class website. Thanks to Aubrey for taking the photos! We won't be working with clay this week, so parent volunteers won't be needed (although I could still use some help at the remaining three sessions). Instead, we will be learning about the watershed with guest presenter Jaimie Garbutt on Wednesday.
UNPLUG AND PLAY
This is a great program that we'll be talking about in class this week. Passports will be coming home Thursday.
"The Kamloops/Thompson School District, Kamloops Early Language and Literacy Initiative (KELLI), Literacy in Kamloops (LinK), the City of Kamloops and the Daily News invite students to participate in Unplug and Play for Family Literacy, January 22 to January 28th. Families are encouraged to disconnect from electronics and spend more time playing and interacting. Balancing technology use can strengthen literacy skills and increase family attachment. Students are challenged to use the Passport to Play Activity Logs which allow them to pledge to reduce or eliminate screen time for one week. Each passport included a daily checklist to record achievement. The schedule of free alternative events for families to participate includes gymnastics, public skating and Lego building. Completed passports are entered in a district-wide draw." adapted from the SD73 website
